Cinnamon and Orange Old-Fashioned

I do love an old-fashioned, it’s my go to drink when mulling over the rest of the cocktail menu on a night out, or one to end an evening on. I have also been experimenting more over the last while with cocktails, due to the large amount of random alcohol I have found in my cupboard. However, I came across this one online, a slightly more diluted old fashioned with festive flavours of orange and cinnamon. Making the cinnamon syrup certainly fills the house with a delicious festive smell!

Cinnamon and Orange Old Fashioned

Ingredients (Serves 1)

100ml Maple Syrup
2 sprigs Fresh Rosemary
2 Cinnamon Sticks
50ml Bourbon
50ml Orange Juice
1 dash orange bitters
1 tsp Cinnamon Syrup
Cinnamon Stick and Fresh Rosemary, for serving (optional)

Method

Cinnamon Syrup

  • Add to a pot 100ml water, maple syrup, rosemary and cinnamon sticks and bring to a boil. Boil for around 3-5 minutes, then remove from the heat. Let cool. Keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

The Old Fashioned

  • In a glass add some ice, pour over the bourbon, orange juice, orange bitters and the cinnamon syrup
  • Stir to combine
  • Garnish with a cinnamon stick, rosemary and candied orange slice

To make the candied orange slice, heat 75g sugar in a heavy bottomed pan until bubbling and golden, add in the orange slices and cook until the orange slices have become translucent and have started to go caramelise. Remove from the pan onto greaseproof paper and allow to cool.
