Sun-Dancer, Nairn

As summer was drawing to a close, we had a visitor to the cottage – my Mum! She is someone who loves to eat out (she can’t cook and frankly doesn’t like to cook, so I have no idea how I survived childhood!) so being relatively new to the area, the hunt was on for new places to eat!

I came across Sun-Dancer in Nairn, a lovely beach house style restaurant with fantastic views over Nairn beach. We managed to score a window table, which was great given it was a lovely evening, and we managed to get a glimpse of the sunset.

The menu at Sun-Dancer is unsurprisingly seafood heavy, however there are still plenty of choices for those that are not seafood fans. There is also a well thought out menu for the small people in your party (in my case, her majesty!)

For Starters I went for the Prawns Pil Pil, large Langoustine cooked in oil with Garlic and Peppers, totally divine, and plenty of bread to dip into the oil afterwards. My husband had the Pork Belly which came with Welsh Rarebit, Roasted Shallots, Shaved Apple, Crispy Kale and an Indian Pale Ale Reduction. I didn’t even get to sample any, so I’m taking that as a winner also!

For main course I kept to the fish theme, with Hake, served with Cockles, Prawns and roasted potatoes, another tasty course, with fish that just fell apart and more tasty juicy prawns. Himself went for the Monkfish, served with a massive Langostine and a battered oyster. Again the fish was melt in the mouth and whilst he was sceptical about the oyster, having had a battered one before, he confirmed that too was indeed very tasty! I haven’t mentioned what Mum had, and that’s because it was the children’s menu, and she had Chicken Goujons, which judging by the clean plate went down well. It was a good sized dish for small eaters!

For dessert I went for the Lemon Meringue cheese cake with coconut ice cream, which was creamy, lemony but not too sweet, could have had another one to be honest! Mr ‘I don’t like sweet stuff’ proved himself wrong as he devoured the Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Tart. A light crispy case with delicious dark chocolate filling, and tart raspberries to cut through the richness. I got a sample of this and was indeed very tasty!

While rounding of the meal with teas and coffees, we managed to catch a glimpse of the sunset. I perfect end to a lovely meal and lovely day!
