I’ve been spending more time recently up on the Moray coast in the North-East of Scotland and have been out and about exploring the local area. A period of good weather around the longest day gave us the opportunity to try out Bootleggers Bothy at the West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman.
After a short walk from the Car Park at Cummingstown, along the Moray Coastal Trail, we found the caravan park, and right in the middle is the Bootleggers Bus, the bothy and The Salty Dog pub. We had hired a tent for the evening, just in case standard Scottish weather made an appearance, which thankfully it didn’t!
Displayed on a big blackboard is the day’s offerings. There are two menus to choose from, the 7-day menu and the weekend specials
Since it was a birthday treat of sorts I went all in with a whole Lobster, it was massive and I actually needed help to finish it! It was served with a plethora of Fries, Salad and a delicious Seaweed Butter. My dining partner went for the Seafood Chowder with Rosemary Focaccia (which was tasty) and the brisket of the day, served with Roasted potatoes and Coleslaw. For me all washed with a nice glass of rose, and for him a local non-alcoholic beer!
This time we didn’t have dessert, that lobster left me full enough, and I was thankful for the wander back to the car! If you aren’t starting at West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman (and you should it is a lovely site!) you can easily access Bootleggers Bothy via Hopeman itself or from the car park at Cummingstown. Whatever way you get there, you just need to pay them a visit!
