Afternoon Tea at The Prestonfield

Prestonfield House Hotel

Last week myself and a friend treated ourselves to Afternoon Tea at The Prestonfield House Hotel.  The Prestonfield is tucked away in the South Side of Edinburgh, a little oasis of countryside in the city.  As you drive up the driveway you forget where you are as you are greeted by 3 highland cows (Aunt, Mum and Barbara the daughter)!!

The hotel itself is an old mansion house and is quite grand, as well as being reasonably well decked out for Christmas!  Upon arrival we were waited on hand and foot, our coats taken from us and we were showing to our seats in a lovely ornate dining room overlooking the gardens.  We were left to peruse the menu and enjoy our Gin & Tonic.

Then our cake stand arrived, with a little side of sandwiches and hot pastries!

Our Tower of Treats

Our savoury treats consisted of freshly made Ham, Cucumber and Egg sandwiches, with a Pumpkin and Goats Cheese  Palmiere and a Haggis Bonbon

To start our sweet treats, there were two scones each, one fruit and one plain.  They were delicious and also slightly warmed, just the way I like them! With them was a healthy serving of clotted cream and jam –  really an afternoon tea necessity!

And finally the long awaited for top layer where we had a Strawberry Financier, a Lemon and Mango Macaron, Coconut and Raspberry Profiterole and a Dark Chocolate and Cherry Cake

Pastry Selection

We enjoyed all of this over a couple of pots of the Prestonfield Blend Tea, which was a great compliment to the food.  We had a lovely afternoon in luxurious surroundings catching up, the service being attentive but certainly not rushed, it was a struggle to leave!   If you are looking for a little escape from the madness of the city, especially at this time of year I would definitely recommend treating yourself to afternoon tea at The Prestonfield.
