Kyloe is not a place I automatically think of for Afternoon Tea. Normally we visit for incredible steaks and cocktails, so I was intrigued to try their Afternoon Tea offering. I went along with a friend before Christmas to try it out, starting with an obligatory cocktail of course in The Huxley downstairs.
We moved upstairs and were seated in a little booth which was nice and given a Chocolate and Banana Smoothie to drink as an aperitif!
We were then presented with the afternoon tea itself, served in a wooden box on a bed of fake grass, unexpected and kind of quirky. Thankfully the presentation did not take away from the delicious treats on offer. The savouries were a Chicken Pie with Chilli & Lime, Beef Focaccia with pickle, onions and curry spices, Pickled Mackerel with Crispy Pumpernickel, Mini Lamb Burgers with Mango Chutney, and a Pear, Apple and Cheddar Sandwich on Walnut and Honey bread.
All of which were delicious and its hard to come up with a favourite!
The scones were brought separately and were slightly warmed which was nice, served with clotted cream and some lovely homemade jam. After this we were given a break and a sorbet to cleanse the palate before moving onto the sweet treats, which consisted of a Carrot & Pecan Muffin, Fudgey Oreo Brownie and a Lemon Curd Doughnut.
We were really full by the end but we sampled everything, along with a couple of their afternoon tea cocktails which went really well with the food.
If you are looking for something less formal for an Afternoon Tea and a bit different, I would happily recommend giving Kyloe a try.
