The Three Birds

A few weeks ago Three Birds in Bruntsfield ran two menu taster days, offering half price on the dishes they were going to include on their new menu, in return for feedback.  Always one for eating out and a bargain a friend and I headed there to try them out.  Three Birds is very much a local neighbourhood bistro, bright airy with a friendly welcome.

For the first time in a long while I found myself with a problem – I could have eaten everything on the menu (believe me this doesn’t occur that often!).  Neither of us could decide on which starter to have, so we shared 3! We opted for the Potted Arran Blue Cheese & Walnuts with Port Baby Onions and Crispy Sticks, Moroccan Style Tomato and Cumin Lamb Koftas with Tahini & Honey and the Crayfish, Pineapple and Blood Orange Salad.  All were tasty – the Port Baby Onions were delicious – I could have eaten an entire jar! The Koftas were flavoursome and the salad was light and fresh – so far so good!

The Starters

For mains, we had the Slow braised Blade of Beef, Chimichurri Fried Potatoes, Greens, Spicy Tomato & Red Wine sauce and Crème Fraiche and the Vietnamese style Shredded Pork and Rice Noodle Salad .  Both were generous portions, the beef was cooked beautifully, really tender and the potatoes were nice with quite the kick!  The salad was fresh and really tasty with Mint, Coriander and Basil tossed through it.

Well, it would be wrong not to have a dessert we had the Sticky Marmalade Ginger Pudding with Kahlua Ice Cream and the Chocolate and Amaretto Torte  – both where so tasty.  Both plates cleared – need I say any more!

Desserts

Three Birds is a great little place, they do amazing sounding sharing platters, so I’m looking forward to going back trying one of those.  If looking for somewhere in Bruntsfield I would recommend giving Three Birds a try.
