Edinburgh Larder Bistro

Edinburgh Larder Bistro

Last week myself and a few friends headed along to the Edinburgh Larder Bistro in a basement on the corner of Alva Street.  I have driven passed it many times and at last had an excuse to go. We were also fortunate to spot on LivingSocial a voucher – 2 courses and a glass of Prosecco for 2 people for £19 – you can’t be bad with that!

After a warm welcome we were seated in the ‘back room’ of the restaurant, which was bright and fresh, and with only a few tables, so we weren’t all squashed in.  We were given the special LivingSocial menu and while we were choosing our Prosecco was served (which was so nice we ordered another bottle for the table!)

For Starter I went for the Warm Salad with Caramelised Beetroot and Crowdie Cheese.  The beetroot was lovely, earthy and fresh tasting and the crowdie cheese delicious, just the right amount so it wasn’t overpowering

For main I had the Beer Battered Fish of the Day with Beef Dripping Chips.  The fish was Haddock and the batter was light and crispy.  The chips were well cooked and nice and fluffy in the inside – perfect! We asked for Tartar Sauce for the fish, but they didn’t have any, so the chef whipped us up some, with what looked like real homemade mayonnaise, such a nice touch and it was tasty!

We all went for a dessert, which is an extra course of the deal (an extra £4).  I went for the Warm Russet Apple Crumble and Lavender Cream, which was tasty, the lavender cream being more like a lavender flavoured Crème Anglais.

We had a lovely evening with great food, I would certainly recommend paying the Edinburgh Larder Bistro a visit and take advantage of this great deal or just any time. I know I’ll certainly be back!
