Friday was Stuarts birthday, and being the selfless wife I am I took him to see Skyfall (oh hello Daniel) and then onto The Balmoral Bar at The Balmoral Hotel for the Cocktail Tasting Menu.
Its been 5 years since the Balmoral Bar opened, and to celebrate this birthday the bar had created a special celebratory tasting menu. They do change their cocktails seasonally, so its a good excuse to go a couple of times a year!
The tasting menu follows the same courses as a 5 course tasting menu at a restaurant, with an amuse bouche and 4 ‘courses’. The waiter explains with enthusiasm and in detail the contents of the cocktail, which is good, but sometimes you just want to drink it!!
So here is a run down of our tasting menu…
Not sure what it was called but contained a tasty mix of Crème De Bergamot, Chambord and Apple Juice. It was sunk like a glass of juice!
For me I had ‘The Ginger Cowboy’ which was made up of Tequila, Ginger and Lemongrass cordial topped with Apple Juice
For him ‘The Bitter Cuban’ a strong mix of Havana 7, Aperol and Cherry Bitters
For both of us ‘The Forbidden Fizz’, and delicious glass of Zubrowska Vodka, Apple Juice and Prosecco
For me I went for the slightly more wintery the ‘Captain Sloe’ made of Sloe Gin, Lemon Juice, Apple Juice and a touch of Elderflower
For him, a whisky based cocktail ‘The Smokey Clarkson’ made with an Ardbeg 10, Cointreau, Lime Juice and Navan
For both of us we went for another whisky based cocktail ‘The Dalmore Sour’, which contains Dalmore 15, Angostura Bitters, Honey and Lemon Juice.
It was really busy in the bar, and luckily we got one of the last tables, so I would advise to book before you go to avoid disappointment! Roll on Spring for the next seasonal menu!
